Nikko Hotel Classic has a convenient location to both train stations in Nikko (it’s directly across from the JR station). Upon entering, you are warmly greeted by the staff, who will explain the breakfast and hot spring hours. There is also an amenity bar where you can pick up additional things like razors and body care products as well as cups and tea for your room. A lounge features a free coffee, machine, and place to relax. The first-floor spa is a welcome way to unwind at the end of a long day. The hotel is older, so rooms do feel a little worn as far as fixtures and drapery, but everything was spotlessly clean. Despite being across from the train station, my room on the fourth floor was super quiet and had a fantastic view of the 1914 station building. One note for those with small kids or those not used to Japanese food is that the breakfast buffet is fairly limited and leans toward Japanese items like curry and consommé soup… There are a few cereals, but not many choices for western-style dishes. The daily lineup includes black coffee, several kinds of fruit juice, hard-boiled eggs, salad, yogurt and canned fruit, and several kinds of bread and jam, which was plenty to get me started for the day. The hotel also offers a second-floor bar and an adjacent restaurant, neither of which I tried on this trip. The multilingual staff will be more than happy to assist you, and the hotel also loans out free umbrellas. This was a definite deal for the level of service and the available amenities, I will definitely be staying here on my next trip to Nikko!
