Mixed Experience at Best Western Ilulissat – Beautiful Views, but Poor Service We recently stayed at the Best Western in Ilulissat, and while the view is absolutely breathtaking and the rooms were clean and comfortable, unfortunately, the positives stopped there. Breakfast was good, and the general upkeep of the hotel is decent. However, the overall attitude of the hotel seems focused entirely on squeezing as much money out of guests as possible, rather than providing a quality experience or genuine hospitality. Customer service was disappointing throughout our stay. We asked for our room key to be updated so we could access the playroom for our children, but were told it couldn’t be done—despite other guests letting us in. We were charged a steep €75 extra for an additional bed. At the hotel restaurant, even a simple request like asking for more sauce came with an extra charge. We also had repeated issues with the shuttle service. When we asked for shuttle timings, staff told us to “come back tomorrow.” When we did, they said “come back at 6,” only for us to find out later that the shuttle leaves at a quarter past each hour. We requested a late checkout (standard checkout is very early at 10 a.m.), but were flatly told it’s not available during peak season—even though our pickup wasn’t until 8 p.m. Worst of all, when our scheduled shuttle didn’t show up on time, we called at 8:25 p.m. (it was due at 8), only to be told it was “coming after dropping off other guests at the airport.” We were left waiting outside in 6°C weather with two small children at the harbor—not exactly a responsible or guest-focused approach. Ilulissat is a stunning destination and this hotel has potential, but the management’s priorities are clearly profit over guest experience. Would not stay again.
